Part 1 of 2
Most of us begin our spiritual life with information. We develop beliefs and opinions. If we follow those with an open heart and allow ourselves to be guided by some unseen power and put some effort into our quest we eventually reach our destination. We may feel a bit dismayed when we realize that we have been there all along, but that’s a topic for another time. What I want to share here is the completely ever-present
opportunity for anyone interested to experience the Highest Essence of their existence and cultivate the ability to connect and communicate with that Essence.
Below is an outline of the stages of realization representing the process of the manifestation of Divine Consciousness. How God becomes a pancake!
Please go over this first then move on to part two
THE MATRIX OF MANIFESTATION.
I. INCARNATION. We enter a body and it develops.
II. EGO. We begin to develop a sense of self, ”me”.
III. SENSORY AWARENESS. We perceive the world and develop mental thoughts related to all perceptual experience.
IV. PERSONALITY. We learn from our experience and develop a self-concept, responding to the influences of our environment. These influences radiate outward from our primary relationships into the world.
V. SEPERATION. We develop a sense of being a unique individual. The I, me, mine mindset is fully formed. This is of course necessary. The problems in life begin here however with this sense of separation. ( Duality )
VI. CULTIVATION. We continue to cultivate our self-concept and continue to do so until we awaken to another level of being. This awakening is not universal and depends on the appearance of discontent, curiosity or some degree of inner calling.
VII. TURNING INWARD. If the awakening begins and we begin to explore our inner being by turning inward, we see the movement of our minds. (Meditation)
VIII. OBSERVER. This brings us naturally to some form of introspection, contemplation, meditation or prayer. We experience the movement of the mind and realize that something other than the thinking mind is observing this movement. This is our first encounter with the higher mind. It is still connected to the idea of an I, me, mine self. There is an overlap with the ego self and the higher self. This is a very auspicious attainment!
IX. MEETING HIGHER SELF. We begin to feel that there is another version of who and what we are. We see and hear wisdom teachings that tell us we are an expression of pure consciousness, of energy and intelligence. We learn to understand the impermanence of the constructed self.
X. INTEGRATION. As we stay focused on the “idea” of the higher self (in meditation especially), working on staying aware of being pure awareness, we are often reminded of our body, our emotions, our past and future, the content of our egoic mind. Relax. The body, mind, and spirit are all one. There is no conflict. We integrate them into one whole self. All of these have their place, time and function. Our work is to balance them. When we do so they are not all that distracting.
XI. ENCOUNTER WITH THE HIGHER SELF. We realize eventually that the observer searching for the higher self is, has been and always will be that higher self. At this point it is helpful to move away from the word “self”. To say “my higher self” seems absurd at this stage.
XII. THE NON-SELF SELF. This arises when we begin to feel, deep in our viscera that we are not an I, me or mine. We are not contained in any name or form. The sense of separation completely is transcended. We experience in our heart, body and mind the vast power of Spirit. We begin to feel the sensation of being an expression of Divine Consciousness. We just know intuitively that our body, our mind, all that we are is truly sacred. This may take awhile, but know that this is what is calling you back into the truth of your being. It loves you, knows you and is your greatest friend and guide.
XIII. UNIFICATION. The last step. This feeling of being a unique expression of the One Divine Consciousness, if we choose, merges with that Source Consciousness. We melt into the Heart and Mind of God.
XIV. RETURN. This new Being returns to the world as it was with a new set of senses, with a new mind and body and a new perception of reality. This Being (us) ,by nature is usually compelled by Love to give back to the world, to share our gifts and skills for the benefit of others. The canvas of our lives is blank and empty. As Divine Co-Creators, we manifest the Sacred into our world.
This is brilliant. Phil's posts are an awesome way to "wake up" when I start my day. Reminds me of the 10 Bulls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j98ksABPMs
